The nose shows notes of Rangpur lime, jasmine, and a hint of vanilla. On the palate the wine has Bosc pear and toasted almond. The wine has bright acidity and an elegant minerality.
Our 2018 Flanagan Chardonnay RRV is a blend of three of the greatest Chardonnay Vineyards in California. The wine is primarily a blend of the Bacigalupi Vineyard and the younger vine vinification from Ritchie Vineyard. There is a small amount of Platt Vineyard fruit that provides a thrilling lift to the acidity.
In 2018 crop set was huge. Cluster counts were normal but as the season progressed the berries just kept sizing up. Yields for many varieties were 30% above average. Some cooler sites struggled to ripen the massive crop but our Chardonnay comes from three of the top vineyards in Sonoma County.
Great vineyards sites, when well-farmed, produce great fruit year after year. In particular the Platt Vineyard, all the way out at the coast in Bodega, had another exceptional vintage.
We aged the wine in 100% French oak barrels, using Atelier Centre France and Boutes cooperage for 11 months with 50% new barrels. This is a stunning example of an AVA wine made from the top vineyards in Sonoma County.
