The 2010 Flanagan Syrah is the greatest Syrah we have made to date. The wine is opulent. Rich purple/black color, a velvety texture, and a beautiful bouquet are the introductions to this spectacular vintage. On the palate this wine keeps all the promises made by the nose and the color. Lush black plums are chased across the palate by nuances of bacon fat, tobacco, and spice. This is a stunning expression of our site and of cooler climate Syrah. Past vintages have been described as reminiscent of the great wines of Hermitage and this vintage continues to express that classic Rhone profile. As always, we barrel fermented our Syrah in our caves and aged it in 100% new French oak. Barrel fermenting, minimal racking, and the use of nitrogen to protect the wine during racking lets us keep the wine in barrel longer. This allows for better integration of oak and fruit without losing the brightness of the wine.
