Our 2011 Pinot Noir displays a classic Russian River profile with aromatics of ripe black cherries and red raspberries. The Swan Clone provides the ripe, opulent fruit and the Pommard the foundation of earthiness and minerality. The combination of the two clones yields a wonderful, balanced wine. We produced 9 barrels and used select French forests and cooperages with 4 new barrels and 5 one-year old barrels.
Vineyard Notes
The 2011 “3 Starrs Vineyard” Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is our first Flanagan Pinot Noir. Made from a combination of Swan and Pommard clones, this wine conveys an excellent sense of our vineyard. A typical day begins with cool fog that fades by mid-morning as the warm sun transforms the vineyard into a warm, welcoming place buzzing with bees. In the late afternoon the ocean air sweeps in from the west cooling the vineyard down. Soils of clay and volcanic rock, carved into rolling hills by the Russian River, are the bass line to the melody played by the sun, wind and fog.
